5 reasons to visit the province of Ouarzazate, Morocco
Ait Benhaddu, a clay city in the desert, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1987, was once the main stop along the caravan route between Marrakesh and the Sahara. This is an example of South Moroccan architecture.
In the 1940s, more than 90 families lived in Ait Benhaddu, then everything began to fall apart, people left and today only five families still live in the fortress. But in the years 07-12, restoration was carried out in order to preserve this historic place. One of the families even opened a traditional cafe there and shows visitors an ancient way of life, traditions and heritage.
Surely many of you have already been there remotely, because it was there that they shot the famous films Game of Thrones, Lawrence of Arabia, Prince of Persia and the Gladiator. Since we were in African Hollywood, we need to see something else:
Gas station from the horror movie "The Hills Have Eyes." Everyone has the opportunity to see this place (the diner itself is closed, but through the glass you can see). Atlas Film Studios. This is, for a second, the world's largest film studio, and all because the surroundings are suitable for any ancient history in the desert, for example: Alexander the Great, Black Hawk, Babylon, the Mummy (1999), Star Wars (1977). One of the most popular attractions is the Colosseum, where Crowe fought in the Gladiator. In 2004, another CLA Studios movie studio appeared, so it’s also worth a visit. Kasba Taurirt, once served as the residence of the powerful Glaui family. Unlike Ait-Ben-Haddou, the interiors of some rooms have been restored: the halls are decorated with stucco patterns with ornaments, and the floor is tiled with red tiles. The world's largest solar power plant Solar Power Station, covering an area of 680 hectares and consisting of a high tower (250m) and half a million cylindrical-parabolic mirrors that reflect sunlight. Previously, for a month on the site masen.ma it was possible to send a request for a visit, now I do not know if it works.
Getting to Ouarzazate is simple: From Marrakech there are many tours for every taste and budget. Or a bus that runs 4 times a day. How many was in Morocco?
